Simatai Great Wall is located in the north of Miyun County, 120 km northeast of Beijing. The Great Wall itself is temporary close since June 2010 for renovation and repair. Recently we heard some news about Simatai Great Wall will reopen in October 2013.

Simatai Great Wall is located about 120 km (75 miles) northeast of Beijing. Visitors can reach the Wall from Beijing for about 2 and half hours. It originally built during the Northern Qi Dynasty and rebuilt in Hongwu years of the Ming Dynasty. Simatai section was built under the supervision of General Qi Jiguang (1528 - 1588). In total, it has 5.4 km long with 35 beacon towers with the average distance between one beacon tower to another about 100 – 200 meters. Simatai Great Wall is also become one of the Great wall sections that still remain its original features with less renovation.

Simatai Great Wall is separated by a valley into eastern and western parts.  Linked with the Jinshanling Section of the Great Wall in Hebei Province, the western part appears gentle with 20 well-preserved watchtowers dotting along the wall. The eastern part is much steeper, following more rugged terrain that includes cliff edges and kilometre-high peaks. Simatai is also famous for its hiking adventure. For past years, the hiking route between Simatai and Jinshanling Great Wall is also become the favorite (takes about 4 hours). The trails are rather steep and at some points very narrow.

Simatai Great Wall is an outstanding place for sightseeing, hiking and exploration. It retains its original appearance in the Ming Dynasty and looks beautiful with its incredible scenic view in surroundings. One of the specialists of Great Wall even said Simatai is the best of the Great Wall.

Some of the main attractions in Simatai are Wangjinglou (Watching Beijing Tower), Xiannulou (Fairy Tower), Tianti (Heavenly Ladder) and Tianqiao (Sky Bridge). Built along the steep mountain ridges, Heavenly Ladder and Sky Bridge are the most thrilling parts. With an elevation of 986 meters, Wangjinglou is regarded as the summit of Simatai Great Wall. From the summit, visitors could see breathtaking panorama view around. Other attraction called Heavenly Ladder is a steep and narrow wall leads to the Fairy Maiden Tower. Climb the mountain side up 85 degrees to the mountain peak with cliffs on both sides. Really adventure!

Besides Mutianyu and Badaling which more famous from others section of the Wall, there is Jinshanling Great Wall. The section of Jinshanling retains its original Ming Dynasty outlook and outstanding nature scenery.

Jinshanling Great Wall lies in the mountainous area of Luanping County, Hebei Province, and has a total length of 10.5 kilometers. It was first built in the sixth century during the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589) with 5 passes, 67 towers and 2 beacon towers. Along it are 67 watchtowers, all in different styles, at average intervals of 150 meters.  Poems and tablet writings are also can be found on the Jinshanling Great Wall left after the Wall rebuilt.

Jinshanling is also best for its photograph and hiking route. Jinshanling to Simatai hiking route is the most popular which takes about 4 hours. If you like hiking then you can train your hiking skill here as well as get the best capture of the stunning views. Jinshanling is also a best place to go as there almost no people.

The steps of the Great Wall at Jinshanling are rather steep and rocky with loose stones at times with parts getting quite narrow. For some tips, you should wear comfortable shoes and clothes for hiking. Prepare your best physical condition to finish the hiking route. Bring only your important things like water on your way.

Located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) northeast of Beijing, Jinshanling offers a great view and its original structures. It is one of the most interesting Great Wall sections which offer many original features. Relatively less crowded and fewer visitors, Jinshanling features with breathtaking nature view and fresh air. In the morning, visitors could also see a sea clouds from above. Together with Simatai, both are the most remote and least restored portions of the Great Wall near Beijing.

The entrance fee to Jinshanling cost 50 RMB. A cable car has been constructed to take visitors to the highest point along the wall (40 RMB one way). Then if you want to explore Simatai, there is an additional admission charge of 50 RMB to continue on to the Simatai section, and a 5 RMB fee to cross the suspension bridge.

Located in Huairou County, 70 kilometers northeast of central Beijing, Mutianyu Great Wall known as one of the best preserved Great Wall. There provides excellent and advanced facilities as well as stunning sceneries around.

The Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is connected with Jiankou in the west and Lianhuachi in the east. Built mainly with granite, the wall is 7–8.5 metres high and the top is 4–5 metres wide. Compared with other sections of the Wall, Mutianyu offers different nature scenery along the Wall. With more than 90 percent vegetation area around the Wall, Mutianyu look beautiful in all year long, in all season with its different atmosphere.

Because of its military importance, Mutianyu Great Wall in total has 22 watchtowers in this 2,250-metre-long stretch. It was built along steep ridges and deep valleys, used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs during the Ming Dynasty.

Come to Mutianyu Great Wall, you will enjoy relatively quiet environment, fewer visitors, and less crowded. More than that, visitors who do not wish climb the Wall may also choose between a two-rider chairlift or four-rider gondola. Both facilities will bring you up from the foothills to the level of the wall, which runs along the ridges above. From a short cable car ride, you will able to enjoy the spectacular views of the Wall as it crosses the ridgeline.

Another feature at Mutianyu called toboggan ride. This allows single riders to descend from the wall to the valley on a winding metal track. One person to a toboggan and you will also have a little handle with which you press down to go faster and pull up to stop. Toboggan ride not available at the other sections of the Wall, so if you come to Mutianyu, this ride could be interesting and fun to try! It is a safety ride though!

Favorite Hiking Section
Mutianyu not only famous for its stunning scenery, it has also known as one of the best section for hikers to exercise. It has situated close to the Jiankou (Arrow Nock) section which is the popular area for the hikers. The hiking part of Mutianyu Great Wall is not overly difficult. There are some points where the path gets a little challenging which mostly include narrow and small steps, along with at times some very steep climbing.
