Jiayuguan Great Wall is situated 6 kilometers southwest of the city of Jiayuguan in Gansu. It was built in 1372 with difficult terrain, called "the first pass in the world" and "frontier lock and key". Among the passes on the Great Wall, Jiayuguan is the most intact surviving ancient military building. Jiayuguan Great Wall which is also called Jiayuguan Pass is also become the first pass at the west end of the Great Wall China which has a long history for more than 600 years.

The total length of Jiayuguan Great wall is 733 meters with the height is 11 meters. The pass is trapezoid-shaped with a perimeter of 733 meters. It has a total area of more than 33,500 square meters and also called as a key way point of the ancient Silk Road. Jiayuguan consists of three defense lines include an inner city, an outer city and a moat. There are two gates one of the east side of the pass and the other one of the west side.

The overhanging Great Wall is an important part of the defensive work of Jiayuguan Pass. It was first built in the year of 1539 during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644). Originally this section was 1.5km in length, but it was shortened to the current 750 meters due to frequent battles by armies to conquer the fort. The existing wall was rebuilt in 1987.
