The site was discovered in March 1974 when farmers found many broken pottery figures while sinking a well in Xianyang village. This simple discovery prompted one of the biggest archeological discoveries of the 20th century, Terracotta soldiers guarding the tomb of China’s First Emperor. The site, which is now designated as a world heritage site by UNESCO, is immense and contains over 7,000 warriors and battle horses and, amazingly, each and every statue uncovered so far has a completely individual expression. An in-site museum has been built over the three excavated pits, covering a floorspace of 20,000 square meters and displaying 2,000 life-like terracotta warriors (which are believe it has a total of 8000 around which still undiscovered).

How to Get Terracotta Warriors?
So if you want to visit Terracotta Warriors with quite cheap spending then from the airport, visitors could go by a group tour, or a RMB80 taxi (one way). Even you can negotiate for the taxi to wait for you. The cheapest way if you are from the airport is take travel bus. Because the travel buses to some attractions are available on the Xian train station, so from the airport you should take the Airport Shuttle Bus #2 to Xian Train Station (for about 1 hour trip). Deposit luggage inside train station then take the bus No.306, No.914 or No.915 or Tourist Line 5 to get to the Terracotta Warriors directly, it cost 7 RMB and 1 hour to get there.

Visitors could take the bus 306 at the little square to the southeast of the bus station to the Terracotta Warriors. Be sure to get off at Terracotta Army because the bus is scheduled to stop at several tourist attractions including Huaqing Hot spring, Qinshihuang's Mausoleum. After your tour, you can take same bus back to train station or Xian downtown.
