Start to Know Chinese History from Beijing by Miranda Porter

February18

After a tour in Shanghai, it was the time for us moved to Beijing, other modern city of China where plenty of historical sites stand. So our tour in Beijing should need some period of time for explore all of them, at least longer than 3 days (time when I did stay in Shanghai). So, here we go, we did reserve 4 days Beijing tour from Shanghai, guaranteed all of the accommodation, transportation and schedule of the tour. All organized and went well.

So here I would like to share my experience while travelling Beijing. My decision to take this local tour was great. No hassle around and truly impressed with the service. We did visit almost all cultural and historical attractions including Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Hutong, etc. Of course hike on Great Wall was priceless experience for me, first time come to Beijing could not say it complete without hiking trip to Great Wall. But for me, personally I really like these two attractions among all, which are Forbidden City and Summer Palace.

Forbidden CityCrowded Forbidden City

Forbidden City was used as the imperial palace in Ming and Qing Dynasty of China, so because of that, it really has a significant place of historic importance. Here is the place where foreigners could find treasures of China. The palace which is more like than a city has even known as the largest collection of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. Tour guide brought us to explore several important sites around the palace for about 2 hours. Actually, it was a really quick trip but we satisfied enough. Tour guide explained some stories behind while exploring.

I think a little bit boring travel Forbidden City with travel agency but however there are a positive and negative for choose a group tour. By travel independently, I might enjoy the detail of palace architecture more. Another place I like most is Summer Palace, is the largest former royal garden, and is extremely peaceful and charming.

The photo above is one of my best photo when explore the garden. The garden was like a living place when summer comes in ancient times of China. Emperor and his family moved here and escape from summer heat, handled court business here. What a perfect garden! Filled of beautiful sceneries, garden, lake and cultural relics combined into a great best preserved classical Chinese garden.

February17

Here we go, a trip to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province made our vacation last month. More than just panda breeding center, a favorite tourist center of Chengdu, the city also has an interesting taste of food, Sichuan food flavors including salty, sweet, hot, spicy, sour and bitter. Sichuan cuisine has known for its bold flavors and spiciness. Apart from met local Sichuan cutest animal residents, my escape holiday from busy city also brought us to the Leshan Giant Buddha and Mount Emei that located not far from Chengdu.

Together with my family, we booked 5 days Chengdu tour that also including for tour transport and accommodation. So all were arranged and we did not need worry about anything. Like everyone said a trip to Chengdu would not complete without a tour to see adorable Chinese pandas in their nature living habitat.

After did visit Chengdu Panda Breeding Center the whole day, next trip to Leshan Giant Buddha makes our tour complete. A couple of hours from Chengdu by private car, we arrived at Leshan Giant Buddha. That giant Buddha said as largest carved stone Buddha in the world! It even has been listed as one of World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1996. We climbed up the whole statue to get closer look as well as visit some of temples along our way. We could take photos while climbing it, and at last could admire that grandeur structure of the statue.

In additional, we also could take a cruise on Min and Qingyi River, viewed the giant Buddha from boat. We did relax our tour overall. It was a short trip to Chengdu but my experiences are priceless. Our guides were so professional, informative and friendly. From the beginning till the end of the tour all went well, and nothing really bad happen. Thanks for all the staffs helped us arrange this tour for us.

We are glad for book this local tour and looking forward to next tour to China and to Chengdu again. Last I know from our guide that Chengdu also famous for its tea culture. Lots of local get out and enjoy their time drink tea and play cards in a tea house. Unfortunately, we did not have chance that time so it must happen next time while travelling Chengdu.

Seeking for the Soul of Lhasa by Margareth Cooley

February16

Amazing 4 days Lhasa tour that we had last China vacation of us! The tour was very organized, include everything from the entrance ticket, Tibet visa travel, accommodation, and more. All that we asked to the staffs were come to real. We enjoyed the trip from the start and got very great experience after all.

So a vacation to Tibet was different to other cities in China. Lhasa can be said is a sacred religious place. It is also the place where people could see personally Tibetan people culture and its life style. My tour to Lhasa of course include some visits to plenty tourist sites including Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, Jokhang Temple and some famous monastery in Lhasa. Overall, my experience in Lhasa was good but what the most I hate is about the high altitude sickness. That was horrible. Although it did not happened in me but my condition and mood was not good enough first time arrived at Lhasa. A little bit tired! Fortunately it did not happen for a long time.

Jokhang Temple

Second day in Lhasa, we visit Potala Palace, The Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street. For me second day itinerary better than other day travel in Lhasa. We did see interesting and authentic building along the tour but most interesting while we exploring Jokhang Temple, the first Buddhist temple in Tibet, located on Barkhor Square (a great shopping street not to be missed) in Lhasa. For most Tibetans it is the most sacred and important temple in Tibet. We did saw authentic interior courtyard of the temple, but unfortunately tourists were not allowed to take photos of the temple's interiors where they house the Buddha statues. I suggest you have to visit Tibet to see it for yourself.

Barkhor Street

Next destination on the second day is to Barkhor Street/Square, which is the most famous shopping paradise popular among tourists. We could purchase some of Tibet traditional souvenirs or handicrafts there. Same as other places in China, we need to bargain for get the best price of good that we want, because same kind of commodities would be sold at different price in different vendors. If you want to get some original good thing then you need take your time explore the whole area. Based on our guide information, visitors need to walk in a clockwise direction along the street. It called as the best way to explore all the spot of the street.

My tour to Tibet was amazing and priceless! Everyone never can feel it before personally visit the region. Thanks for all the service!
