Together with Honghe Hani Rice Terraces, China Xinjiang Tianshan mountain range has also been declared as a natural World Heritage Site at a World Heritage Committee meeting in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Because of this new list, it make China in total has 45 World Heritage Sites, ranking second in the world, defeat Spain. Here some information about Mount Tianshan.

Mount Tianshan which located in Xinjiang, Uygur Autonomous Region in Northwestern China, is newly added become one of the natural sites on the World Heritage List. With this announcement, it is declared become one of the spectacular sites on the list of most iconic places on earth.

Stretching about 1,500 miles (2,500 km) from west-southwest to east-northeast, it mainly straddles the border between China and Kyrgyzstan and bisects the ancient territory of Turkistan. Lies to the north and west of the Taklamakan Desert (the world's second largest sand desert), Mount Tianshan contains a scenically beautiful series of areas, including snow-capped mountains and red bed canyons.

The mountain is also become an outstanding example of ongoing biological and ecological evolutionary processes in a temperate arid zone. It is home to an incredible diversity of species including 94 relic plants dating back from more than two and a half million years ago, 477 rare and endangered species and 140 endemic plants and animals. It is an outstanding universal value that deserves the inscription on the World Heritage List.

Mount Tianshan or also known as the Heavenly Mountain has outstanding scenic values, rich natural features and associated mountain ecosystems which also become a home of 15,953 glaciers and the endangered snow leopard. About 66 percent of the world's 2,500 remaining snow leopards live in Xinjiang.
