Peking Man Site is located in Zhoukoudian, about 45 km southwest of Beijing. Moreover, there are also a large number of other archeological findings unearthed around this area. The most famous is Longgushan cave, which was discovered by a few archeologists in 1920s. The skullcaps found in the cave were then confirmed belonging to the Peking Man who can date back as early as the Stone Age.

About 5,000,000 years ago to 10,000 years ago, the Peking Man used to live in the area in different times. According to the unearthed discoveries, Peking Ape Men are believed to live in Zhoukoudian about 700,000 years ago to 200,000 years ago. And some evidence show that they were able to hunt or collecting for a living back then. Peking Man plays a key role in studying the evolutions of human history. And the discovery of Peking Man Site has left the world a priceless treasure. Nowadays it has been included into the World Heritage List and also opened to the tourists for sightseeing.

The Peking Man Site houses a large number of antiques and remains left by the Peking Men. There is a large amount of body bones found at the top 13 layers; and there are over 100,000 artifacts which were unearthed in the cave including stone tools, plants and animal remains. Other discoveries at Zhoukoudian include the Upper Cave, which is an important site dating back to 18,000 and 11,000 years ago.

More importantly, there are some evidences showing that the fire was used by the Peking Man. There are some remains in the cave which were confirmed being burned by fire as well as some of the animal bones. The discovery of fire at Peking Man Site may push back the use of fire an additional 200,000 years.
