As the capital of China, Beijing has amount of famous tourist attractions and some also listed by UNESCO as the World Heritages. It means that those attractions are already known and be recognized by the world. Six world cultural heritage sites in Beijing are Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Ming Tombs, and "Peking Man" site at Zhoukoudian. And here some short description about these places.

Great Wall

From east to west China, Great Wall is stretching approximately 8,851 kilometers. With a history of more than 2000 years, it is the largest military structure all around the world and the huge architectural project, a historical significance of China.
The Great Wall we see today was mostly built during the Ming Dynasty. Today, it is separated in some of these sections including Badaling Great Wall (the closest section from Beijing), Mutianyu Great Wall (famous for its stunning scenic views), Jinshanling and Simatai Great Wall (known for its hiking trail), Huanghuacheng Great Wall and many more wild sections.

Forbidden City

Forbidden City is the largest and most complete imperial palace in China. From the Ming and Qing dynasties, twenty-four emperors lived and ruled China from the palace. Covering an area of 780,000 square meters, it firstly constructed in 1406 and was completed in 1420.
Originally, Forbidden City was divided into two parts, the Outer Court and the Inner Court. The Outer Court or also called the Front Court was used for ceremonial purposes. Whereas the Inner Court or Back Palace, it was used as the residence of the Emperor and his family and religious activities.

Temple of Heaven

Temple of Heaven was used as the sacrificial altars in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Located in the southern Beijing, it was first constructed in 1420, the 18th year of the reign of Ming emperor Yongle. In more than 500 years until the Qing Dynasty, 22 emperors made 654 sacrifices worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests in the Temple of Heaven.
Temple of Heaven was open to the public in 1919 and regarded as one of the greatest architectural structures in the world. Today, it has known as one of the major tourist attractions in the capital.

Summer Palace

Summer Palace is a great example of Chinese classical imperial garden style and design, a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. It is the largest and best preserved imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty. Covering an area of 290 hectares, the garden consists primarily of the Wanshoushan (Longevity Hill) and Kunming Lake. More than 30 classical structures are scattering on the hill and around the lake. Also combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls, palaces, temples and bridge, Summer Palace is an outstanding expression of the creative art of Chinese landscape garden.

Ming Tombs is the largest cluster of imperial cemeteries in China. There are mausoleums of thirteen emperors of the Ming Dynasty. Changling, the tomb of Emperor Yongle (Zhu Di), was the earliest of the tombs, and the succeeding twelve emperors had their tombs built around it.
Ming Tombs is located in a 40 square-kilometer-nearly basin, with mountains background on three sides.  In July 2003, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee officially inscribed the Ming Tombs as one of the World Heritage List. Today, The Sacred Way, Changling, Dingling, and Zhaoling have been opened to the public.

Peking Man Site, Zhoukoudian
Peking Man SiteMost Comprehensively And Systematically Studied Site of Homo Erectus

Peking Man Site which also called "the Home to Peking Man" is located at the foot of the Longgushan, near the town of Zhoukoudian, about 50 kilometers southwest from Beijing. It is representing the most comprehensively and systematically studied site of Homo erectus. Besides Peking Man fossils, a lot of mammal fossils, artifacts, and ashes are also found at the site. They are excellent material for the study of human evolution and prehistory.
In 1953, a museum of Peking Man was established at the site and opened to the public. It was formally inscribed on the World Heritage List in December 1987 by the UNESCO.
