Mt. Taishan: Bifeng Temple reopens to tourists
The Administrative Committee of Mt. Taishan announced Wednesday that the ancient Bifeng Temple has reopened to tourists after a five-month-restoration.
Bifeng Temple is located in the north of the Colorful Stone Brook in Peach-Bloom Valley at the western foot of Mount Taishan.
Originally, the temple was called Iron Buddha Temple because there was an iron statue of Buddha built in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). Later in the sixth year of the Emperor Longqing’s reign in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), it was rebuilt and restored.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the temple was a center of public worship; later it was deserted.
In August this year, the administration of the scenic area began restoring the temple. The colored paintings and statues inside and outside the temple have been restored, and the square in front of it has also been reconstructed.
