Yellow River Estuary approved as AAAA-level ecotourism region
Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday that the Yellow River Ecotourism Region was approved as a national AAAA-Level tourist site.
The Yellow River Estuary Eco-tourism Region in Shandong Province, featuring Yellow River Delta Nature Reserve as its main body, is a wetland conversation area aiming to preserve the wetland ecosystem and endangered birds in the area of Yellow River Delta. It is reputed as “the best-preserved, the largest and the youngest wetland ecosystem in the warm temperate zone of China”. There are over 280 birds and over 390 species of plants in the conservation area.
The Yellow River meets the sea in the area, creating a splendid scene. The yellow muddy water in the Yellow River contrasts finely with the azure sea. Every year, flocks of tourists are drawn here to view the spectacular scene.
Every year, a large amount of silts carried by the water in the Yellow River sunk at the estuary, forming the Yellow River Delta. The delta, covering an area of 5,000 square kilometers (1931 square miles), was listed as national nature reserve in 1992. It has become a sanctuary for hundreds of birds.
