Four rail transit lines to put into service in 2009 in Shanghai
News from Shanghai is that the main construction work of the Rail Transit Line 9 (the second phase), Line 11(the first phase of northern line), Line 8 and Line 7 will be finished by the end of this year, and the four lines are expected to be on trial operation in 2009.
At present, the installation of mechanical and electric equipments along the four lines is underway. According to work schedule, the four lines are expected to be open to traffic next year, which will benefit people who live in Pudong, Baoshan,and Jiading districts.
According to presentations, the second phase of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 8 is a 14-kilometer (8 miles) long line, starting from Yangsi Road to Spaceflight Park (Hang Tian Gong Yuan) Station. Line 7 is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) long, passing through Baoshan, Putuo, Jingan, Xuhui and Pudong districts, which is an import traffic line to serve the World Expo. The second phase of Line 9 is a main line traversing the city from its southwest to northwest, which is also a main route during the World Expo. The first phase of Line 11 is 45 kilometers (28 miles) long, which traverse three districts: Jiading, Putuo and Changning.
By the end of 2009, there will be overall ten rail transit lines in Shanghai, which will be helpful to ease the city’s surging flow of passengers during the World Expo in 2010.
