At the joint of the Li River and the Xiangsi River, there’s an isolate mountain standing tall and upright beside the river with an unobstructed cavern in it, where many tourists in Guilin tour have visited. The cavern is long and thin, which connects the east and west side of the mountain. It is separated into two layers, and all the stones in the cavern are in different shapes.
On the rock platform on the cliff towards the river, there’s an orange galalith and its appearance is just like a child who is sitting on the platform. And at the west gate of the cavern there’s another black galalith shaped like an old gloomy man with a hat on his head. So people called this cavern the Father and Son Crag. Also, there’s a story about how these two stone came.
It was said that there was a father and a son whose family name was Long. They were very good at building boats, and many people around Guilin knew of their skill. The boats they made could carry many goods and move quite fast. These boats even needed no trackers or oars wherever they went. A rich man lived in the Tuomuyu nearby heard of this and thought the boat the Longs made was perfect for his business. So he came to ask the Longs to make him a big boat for transport rice. But all the rice he got originally belonged to the peasants around. The rich man knew that there was no rain in Hepu for a long time and was short of rice, so he robbed people’s rice and wanted to exchange pearls with it. The Longs knew that they should not help this evil man, so they refused to make boat for him. But they also knew that if they didn’t agree, they could not stay in home any more, or they might be treated horribly by the rich man. So they left and hid in the cavern. At last, they finally died of hunger in the cavern.
After they died, they became two galaliths, and people named this cavern after them to memorize their spirit.
