Longji Rice Terraces

Longji Rice TerracesLongsheng is a section of Guilin. Its main attraction is Longji rice terraces ( Longji Titian), called Dragon Backbones by the locals. The terraces look like great chains or ribbons as they wind from the foot to the top of the hill. They were built from the Yuan dynasty(1279- 1398) to the beginning of Qing dynasty(1644-1911) by the minority peoples of the area. A 40 minute walk up the stone covered paths and steps reveal the Dragon's Backbone, which is called "The champion of the terrace world".This creation makes the best use of the limited arable land and water resources in the mountainous area.
