Rising above sea level with a high altitude, the weather in Tibet varies greatly within a day, so you might need to bring an extra layer of clothes getting around Tibet. Tibet is well known for its dry air, low oxygen content and inadequate moisture, which may easily cause some trouble for the first time travelers. Moreover, known as the Land of Sun, Tibet is exposed to a strong sun radiation so prepare very well before you come to Tibet, and carry a pair of sunglasses and a bottle of suntan oil all the time while traveling around. June is the hottest season in Tibet with an average temperature of 15.7℃ while January the coldest season with an average temperature of -2℃. Therefore you need consider which season you prefer to come. The rain in Tibet is not vey abundant and mainly falls in June, July, August, and September. The best time to explore Tibet is April through October – highly recommended. Moreover do not be surprised by the night rain which is very common in Tibet.

Getting to Tibet
Tibet is accessible via dozens of domestic and international flights to Lhasa from Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Kunming, Chengdu and Katmandu (capital of Nepal). Located in Gongga County, Lhasa Gongga Airport is 98 kilometers away from Lhasa. There are two to three daily flights from Chengdu to Lhasa and it only costs about CNY1000. It will take you about 1.5 hour and CNY 25 to get to Lhasa – the capital City of Tibet. On your return, you can take a shuttle bus at Civil Aviation Ticket Office near Potala Palace and get to Lhasa Gongga Airport. Alternatively you can take a train ride to get to Tibet, which is the best way to experience the altitude differences while climbing up the plateau of Tibet. Up to this day there are dozens of train routes available, from Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, Xining, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
