Dragon DanceThere are 16 legal festivals in China and they can be divided into three categories: the first category is the festive holiday for all citizens, including: New Year (January 1st,1 day holiday), the Spring Festival (started from the first day of Lunar new year 3 days off), Labor Day (May 1st, 2nd, 3rd ;3 Days off) and National Day (October 1st, 2nd, 3rd also 3 days off). In addition to the festive holiday for all citizens, there is also the second category,it is part of the civic festivals and anniversaries, including: Women's Day (March 8th Women's half-day holiday), Youth Day (May 4th young people over 14 years old have a half day off), Children's Day (June 1st for children under the age of 13,1 day off), Army Day (August 1st servicemen  have a half-day holiday). The third category is customary minority festivals, holidays dates provide by ethnic minority local governments, in accordance with their respective national custom.

People celebrate these special national days but they do not have time off: Arbor Day, International Nurses' Day, Anniversary of the Founding of the Chinese Communist Party, Teachers' Day, and Journalists' Day.

During long holidays such as May Day holiday and National Day holiday, hotel rooms, train tickets or air tickets will definitely be in great demand then. Therefore, we recommend that people who are planning China tour packages avoid these holidays in view of the huge crowds that gather at the major tourist attractions.
