Itinerary of China Rail Tour - 5 Days Xian Datong Beijing Train Travel

Day 1: Arrival in Xian (L, D)
1. Upon arrive at Xian Airport or Railway Station, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
2. After lunch, first drive you to Shaanxi Provincial History Museum. Then move on to Big Wild Goose Pagoda for a visit. Lastly drive you to the downtown Xian to visit the Great Mosque.
- Shaanxi Provincial History Museum: it is a giant architectural in the Tang-dynasty style and it successfully symbolizes the great extent of Shaanxi history and its remarkable culture.
- Big Wild Goose Pagoda: the symbol of the long history of Xian, and a well-preserved ancient building and holy worshipping shrine for Buddhists.
- Great Mosque: it is the biggest and most preserved complete Chinese existent mosque in Xian.
3. After dinner enjoy the Tang Dynasty Show. Then transfer you back to the hotel.
- Tang Dynasty show: a wonderful performance of the ancient music and dance, is a must when you visit Xian.

Day 2: Xian - Datong (B, L, D)
1. Pick up from your hotel in Xian, you will first to visit Terra Cotta Warriors (40 miles away from downtown).
- Terra Cotta Warriors: It is a part of the Qin emperor's tomb complex, the Terra Cotta Warriors is the greatest findings in the archeology world.
2. After a typical Chinese lunch, drive you back to the city center of Xian and visit the Ancient City Wall.
- Ancient City Wall: the most complete city wall survived in China as well as one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
3. After the tour, transfer you to Xian Railway Station and take the overnight train for Datong.

Day 3: Arrival in Datong
Arriving in Datong at 14:47, you will meet our tour guide and driver at the railway station and then directly transfer you to the hotel in Datong. Free for the rest of the day.

Day 4: Datong (B, L, D)
1. Pick up from your hotel in Datong, and first visit the most famous attraction - Yungang Grottoes.
- Yungang Grottoes: Represent the outstanding achievement of Buddhist cave art, hosts some 51,000 sculptures of varying sizes in 53 rock caves.
2. After lunch, drive you to another amazing attraction in Datong, the Hanging Temple. Then move on to Yingxian County to visit the Wooden Pagoda.
- Hanging Temple: With a history of 1,400 years and being constructed on precipitous cliffs, the temple is an architectural wonder.
- Wooden Pagoda: The only extant large wooden pagoda in China, regarded as the "First Pagoda in the World".
3. After the tour, transfer you back to the hotel in city downtown.

Day 5: Datong - Beijing (B)
Pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Datong Railway Station to take the train to Beijing. On arrival in Beijing, meet you and transfer you to the hotel or free on your own.

Impressive tour, great service, and right choice of attractions! A very interesting tour provided a comprehensive overview of the history of Xian and Datong as well as their key sites. Our guides shared unique bits of history behind each destination without going overboard. I highly recommended the tour if you'd like to experience some of ancient historical sites in Xian and Datong.

We did explore two old cities of China, Xian and Datong. Both cities have its own attractive places that you should not miss if visit the city. Yungang Grottoes was fabulous and amazing! An outstanding Buddhist cave art! Great tour, great staff, and great places! The tour guide was terrific. Will surely recommend others to do this tour!
